Hi,
I am looking to do some restoration work on a VW Transporter. Will be a mix of thin rusty wheel arches and thicker (rusty) up to a max of 5mm-ish chassis rails. Probably be fabricating stuff about 2.5mm.
I will be doing this work outside as I don't have the luxury of a garage that will take my van :-(
I have never MIG or TIG welded before, but have used Arc once or twice and Oxy-Acetylene welded quite a lot during an apprenticeship 30 years back.
Is a combination MIG/TIG worth looking at or what should I concentrate on for this type of work?
Is gasless suitable for this kind of work?
There seems to be many brands to choose from though I am keen on something with a local decent warranty, not interested in something that is cheap with no warranty that will be hard to produce decent results with.
If I could get a list of brands to focus on that would be great, and any idea of what I should budget on.
I have seen this combination MIG/TIG https://www.weldequip.com/ifl-170-mig.htm does this give the best of both?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
Pete
