New Pictures
Hi all,
I'm currently restoring my 1988 Daimler, an XJ40 model, not a series 3 like Teddykan's.
I've been looking at it for some time, and evaluating how I'm going to continue, and reading up as much as possible. I had to patch the sills on my Range Rover recently for an MOT, and used a borrowed welder from a friend, with pub CO2 gas.
Because of this experience, I have decided to invest in my own welding gear, so I've just opened an account with my local gas distributor, and I'm picking up a bottle of Ferramaxx 7 later on today, and I've also ordered a TopMig Turbo 150 MIG Welder.
I figured as a novice to welding, I could use all the help I can get, so if my equipment is good, that will help me out.
My next issue is that outer sills are not available for my car, no-one makes aftermarket pattern ones, and original sills have been on back order at Jaguar for the last 3 years with no ETA as yet. I'm going to look to see if I can repair the sills as is, but I don't really want to do this, I feel it's a bit of a cheap fix. I'm exploring making my own sills now.
If anyone wishes to take a look at my car, the project is being documented http://www.daimlerxj6.co.uk
Cheers,
Matt
