Hi, just joined the forum. I have had both my welders for ages (1x SIP Migmate 130 or 150 Turbo, and 1x Sureweld (roughly 140A))
Ok, so they are crap machines but im going wrong somewhere I think. Im not using the SIP at the moment as I need a new swan neck. Im building a go-kart with/FOR my younger brother. Im using 25mm square steel about 2mm thick, bog standard stuff. Using 2.5mm electrodes at about 85amps (I have some 2.0mm too), the weld looks ok but within a few seconds it cracks (sometimes as im welding further along). Can anyone help? Is it that the amps are too low because it doesnt seem to be penetrating either. Is there a table/chart showing rough amps to thickness etc? Preferrably for arc. I get on ok with my SIP.
Cheers, any help will be appreciated.
