hey up all
i was successful in bidding on an MG midget a couple of weeks ago
i went and viewed her (i call her midge) and decided she was worth saving, she is a 1979 1500cc (triumph spitfire engine) with twin hs4 SU carbs.
generally it's in fair nick with the engine bay, cockpit floor and inner sills plus boot floor all rock solid, not so good are the rear wing bottoms (with arches), and the nearside boot to nearside rear wing (a small curved panel) in need of attention.
a few pix
my brother is going to paint it for me (he paints cars, bikes, lorries for a living, he also puts fancy pics on them and has painted loads of scooters/bikes that have won comps!)
i'll be doing the welding and have a half rear wing and boot floor to wing panel on their way to me- not cheap at ninety odd quid for the two but much better than trying to 'patch' it up
up to now i've freed off the siezed on brakes, greased the steering, the nearside came through straight away and so must have been done fairly recently, the offside took a fair bit of pumping before the grease appeared at the kingpins making me think it hadn't been seen to for some time
i've also had to remove two locking nuts from the rear for which i didn't have the tool to fit.
i was advised to 'hammer' on a socket that was a tight fit (this turned out to be a 15mm), they came loose very easily using this method.
i'll post again when i get the panels (and the time to fit them)
