Hi all,
Not been MIG welding for long, and recently purchased an R-tech 180 MIG welder.
Having been playing on some scrap metal etc for a for weeks, and now is the time to start my first project, a Welding table/metal working bench with vice.
One end has braked castors on the bottom, and the other end just legs. I think this gives more stability if hammering about, but enables me to move it around if needed (hopefully not often).
Ingredients:
1420mm x 620mm x 6mm thick.
40x40x25mm box section
0.8mm Welding wire.
2x 75mm braking castors (bolt mount)
Starting doing some penetration tests on the box section steel with mitre joints to see what sort of settings the R-tech should have to be. Looked ok to me on Power 7 wire 6.5 or about there.
Started putting the frame together. This is where I am trying to get the top frame flat and square. Ive laid it on the table top sheet to ensure its flat:
Top frame welded together:
The mitre welds I was very pleased with, but the corner edges were quite rough for some reason:
Grinding flat the welds on the top and bottom where the top will sit and the legs will go:
Then started putting the legs on one side, with a lower support across the legs. Found it quite hard to get the legs exactly square, they are pretty good but not perfect. Was trying to align them using a largish square I have.
Next step is the other end legs, which will have the castors on them.
To be continued.....
Any tip/advice welcome.
