So, I have a planer thicknesser with a 2.3kw single phase motor. Recently it just hummed and wouldn't start. Occasionally it has done this and need to be turned a few times before trying again. This time, no go.
So, I look at the condensor inside the connection box. Melted to bits with bubbles of smelly plastic...
It was a 30uf, but I tried a 50uf off another motor and off she goes. Did about 30 mins light work.
Next time, a week later, humms again... Condensor is bulging at one end..
Pulled the motor to bits and widings look OK, no signs of heating.
Is it a problem to use a bigger condensor? Or am I off to the rewinding shop? Condenser was cold, so likely this happened on the previous use.
Tx for any ideas.
