I am rebuilding a large part of the structure of a Light Commercial (OK, its a Ford Transit 150) - not sexy but necissary - and I'm doing OK. I welded a lift out of Unistrut, I have cut out and rebuilt a 2 meter section of the chassis box, one suspension mount completed another half way, and the bravado I started it with is beggining to flag. Please could someone tell me if the scale of the rebuild is beyond the scope of the MOT to test or if it will require reclassification from VOSA or something like that?
Details: I am cutting out 1.7m from the rear box totaly, replacing front and rear mounts for the rear suspension, on both sides, and one of the cross-boxes at the rear. I am doing it out of 3mm and 5mm bar (sheet, sheared by the supplier actualy) to create the new boxes, seam welding them together inside and out where possible, the intention being to rebuild it stronger than it was before.
And to think I only thought this would take me a couple of weeks full time...
I will have to borrow a camera to get any photos of work in progress. will try to have soon..
