Most common type off shore?

Hi all,

Im currently doing a Level 2 course in MIG and was considering TIG afterwards.

However, I have recently been thinking about the off shore industry. I know its hard to get started, but it doesn't stop me thinking about it

Anyway, whats the most common method out on the rigs? I would presume Arc due to portability.

EDIT; Thought i should add I don't expect to get out there with the qual I have, I know its an entry level qual, but I'm thinking long term and something to aim for.

My understanding is arc al the way with some very special tig welding on special grades in difficult welding conditions

On the jack up drilling rigs that I've been on its mostly stick, the small fab shops usually have a little tig and maybe a mig set for little jobs, but most of the welder are coded in stick.

The jack ups have one or two large welding sets that have tappings in various locations around the rig, and usually a little inverter set for "just in case", if the contractors are aboard they usually get a few gensets hired in.

normally tig root and hot pass and then stick fill and cap

Our welders just use a stick set on the structure, I think pipe work is more involved.
