Having read the details on our council's website I expect my project may require building regs approval, as a structural alteration, but not planning permission. If anyone has had experience of seeking building res approval for something similar I would be interested in any hints.
My garage is on a slope and detached from the house. At the rear the floor is about 5 feet above the ground. It has a suspended beam and block concrete floor. What I want to do is make a man door into the back at ground level leading into a pit. The beams run across the garage so I would need to build supporting pit walls before cutting them.
I know pits are often frowned upon due to the possible gathering of vapors in them. However, given the pit floor is at the rear ground level I would expect this issue can be satisfied.
