I am in the process of building a 10m by 5m steel framed barn to use as a machinery store on some land we own.
Just about finished all the groundworks so I am almost ready to order the steel for the 3 portal frames.
Because of logistics its going to be easier to consruct the frames onsite. I have a 15kva generator that is powered by the tractor so I have 63amps @230v single phase to play with.
I dont want to drag my MIG and bottle up there so I am looking for a MMA welder with a decent duty cycle.
The heaviest sections I need to weld will be the 12mm base plates onto the 200*100mm 23kg universal beams.
Ideally I am after something that will burn 4 to 5mm rods without the thermal trip going every 5 minutes.
Size is not a problem so an oil cooled welder would be fine although I haven't used one since college about 20 years ago but ideally an inverter would be more convenient.
I have a Gys 140A HF DC TIG/MMA and although the TIG is brilliant with HF start, pulse, slope and post gas adjustment the duty cycle in MMA mode is poor, so this is going to be sold to fund the new MMA.
Any recommendations, don't really want to spend more than £300 if I can help it.
