Hello,
I’m looking to purchase a mig welder for home hobby use and am a bit confused with all of the available models. I’ve got a lot of small projects that have been accumulating and I finally have some free time to tackle these.
I’ve got a little experience of using a high power 415V 3ph beast on various materials from 2mm plate to 15mm thick hydraulic cylinders but it was about 20 years old with just a few switches to change and to be honest I got the ‘old guy’ to set it up as it was so easy to ruin a weeks worth of turning/milling getting it wrong.
I’ll be welding no more than 4-5mm plate, mainly up to 160amp from a standard 13 amp socket and need it to be portable (inverter) and easy to set up (automatic would be nice) with manual override if possible.
I’ve been looking at the R-Tech 180 which has good reviews but I still struggle with the ‘made in China’ label and it is fully manual.
The Kemppi MinarcMig series look great but a bit out of my price limit and difficult to find 2nd hand.
The Gys Pearl 180 is closer in price but I can’t find any reviews as I think it’s an old model.
I know it gets asked a lot on here as I’ve looked at hundreds of posts but do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks
