Hi everyone!
Learning how to weld has been a life-long ambition for me; I've always admired the ability to join bits of metal while making the joint the strongest part. It seems to me almost a magical process, one which would surely be the envy of any alchemist. I just never had any practical reason to acquire the knowledge - at least until recently... However I suddenly find myself the owner of a big old rusty steel boat, and I figure it's an excuse as good as I'm ever likely to get to progress beyond my ham fisted attempts at stick-welding as a teenage mopedist. But the thing is, I intend for said vessel to eventually become my home, and with a total cabin area of just 16m2 I am desperately pressed for space. After much deliberation and "bargain hunting" I've picked up a second-hand GYS Pearl 180.2 MIG welder, which at ~45x35x25cm and ~10kg is about as small and light as you can reasonably go. But now I need a mask, and from what I've seen they're huge - almost to the point of competing with the Pearl for size! Now I totally understand the need for UV protection, and that the whole face needs to be covered, but I'm hoping there is a more compact option around, and so I registered here to ask:
TL;DR: Can anyone suggest an "auto" welding mask which takes up little storage space while still providing reliable protection?
