its not even my one this time either!!!!!

my mrs works with a woman who has the same model and age megane as me...she turned up to work this morning with one of her rear windows stuck open after deciding to open itself...no input from the switch at all and it wont respond to the switch now either...obviously my mrs took the opportunity to volunteer my services to save the woman some money! she is going to follow my mrs home this afternoon so i can look at it apparently

ive not dealt with windows on mine as they are one of the only things that bloody work, so, who knows what to look for...she just wants it shut, doesnt care if it doesnt open again, just wants the car secure.

First port of call for me would be the rubber gaiter between door and car. Check the wires in there as they get frayed.

Next would be continuity of switch in operation.

i have just been looking at the haynes book of lies and their wiring diagram shows the windows run through both the multiplex modules, which will make fault finding fun...

i hope its just a switch, or a dodgy connection/broken wire but knowing the french its probably 37 fuses and 16 sensors that have all decided they would rather be a giraffe for the day

she made the mistake a few weeks ago buy telling my mrs that she had never had a single problem with it ion the 5 years she has had it and it had a clean history when she bought it...since then its needed a new battery, new alternator, cam position sensor, intake pressure sensor, lambda sensor and now the window is screwed...gotta love the french eh

I wouldn't waste your time too much. Take a quick look at the switch if no luck, disconnect the motor and power it up with a manual 12v feed. Then at least it is secure for her.

that was going to be my plan but curiosity is a weakness of mine...i know why i stopped using this haynes book though...its crap...it has wiring diagrams that are flat out wrong (as i found on my central locking, hours tracing wiring to try and follow their diagram and they have got it wrong) and i have just found, on the rear window circuit, a wire they have labelled as colour 'Sa' but they dont list what colour that should relate to...

Also are we sure it powered down and didnt fall down ! coz they are cable and if a bit rotten they get loads of grief in the winter with frozen windows and it was cold last night.

yeah she said it powered down when she started the car this morning

that reset wont help with this one i dont think as the window wont move at all...will help on my rear passneger window though as it does teh same thing as the videos show where it only moves a few inches at a time

I know I have made mistake afew times on my passat and put the rear window down instead of the front one, and its weird, you get this really odd LOUD buffeting knocking noise like a tyres going to explode at 50
I was really worried and all it was was the rear window down but you couldnt tell inside the car!!

It's worth a try it could be that the system has gone daft especially with it going down of its own accord, it certainly won't be the switch unless someone pressed it and it broke

i think im just going to pop the door card off, have a poke about for anything obvious, if all seems good then im just going to disconnect the motor, wind it up from a battery and leave it up. ive already told her its time to get rid of it now that things have started going wrong they just wont stop

I would try the reset first I'm sure I have cured a non working megane window in the past by resetting the ecu

Check for a corroded earth in the door loom. I had a 306 that had all sorts of issues with the passenger door locks and windows. The earth in the loom had snapped. I just ran a new one and hay pesto!

also if the battery was a bit down on power as it did it on starting
that's enough to send the bsi/bcm wappy try the reset first

The megane windows are quite simple. I had the pleasure of repairing one for a friend. There is a window control module attached to the motor which are prone to failure. There are a few companies on line who repair them on an exchange basis. You can quite easily remove the module from the motor and apply 12v straight to the motor to test it and close the window. I think a repaired unit was about 20 to 30 quid

I think my next car is gonna be a Megane, after all I know a guy who specialises in fixing them
