I'm still in need of a parts washer for degreasing a never ending (seemingly) supply of 2nd hand bike chains and sprockets.
I don't have the room or plumbing in place for a dishwasher.
Ideally, I want something that can be left to work, with maybe minimal scrubbing afterwards - Probably around 25-30l in size to actually hold the parts.
At the moment, I'm using a combination of dishwasher powder + Surf laundry powder, which is OK if i boil it by putting a cut down "orange water cylinder" on a stand over a wood fire. The fluid's not really reusable tho, and it's difficult to empty.
My options seem to be:
A blue hdpe barrel, filled with parts and fluid, then sealed and put on a tumbler with the risk of damaging parts as they're been tumbled.
An old orange water cylinder with the top cut off. If I invert the top, I have a sink + a tank for fluid. Maybe add another cut off top as a lid, a bit like a kettle BBQ. the remains of the cylinder becomes a fluid catchment tank, and I can add a filter under the "sink"
A water tank (galv or plastic?) with an agitator of some type: pond pump? car fuel pump? ultrasonic transducer? I'd still have the filter/emptying problem.
I already have several pond pumps in various sizes from a drip an hour to "fire hose" (12ft head) size
What fluid?
I'm not sure if paraffin, or screwfix degreaser, is worth the 30 quid + it will cost to fill the tank?
Paraffin would be better for me, as it could be used in the waste oil / diesel / paraffin stove I made.
I'm not sure on the legalities of pouring 30l of used degreaser either on the garden, or down the drain.
Or should I just bite the bullet, and get hold of (or even buy! ) a small second hand clarke parts washer?
