That is basically the same concept as the sketch above. Whether it will be the correct radius on the former I am not sure and strength of the bender itself may be an issue as they are designed for copper pipe and not 12mm solid steel.Just a thought, I've got an old Hilmoor pipe bender, could I get decent results with this?
Easy way is to find something 12" round and wrap an wavelength bit of bar around it to form a coil.
Use a .8mm cutting disk and cut through both bits at once where the hoops overlap.
Weld together.
Stops the problem with having flats at the ends.
