Magnetic ground clamp

Just ordered some material to make a welder cart that is going to have a flat steel top as a sort of portable welding table.

Wondering if anyone uses magnetic ground clamps as this seems like an easy solution to leave on the underside of the steel top all the time on its own dinse plug, just put it in a corner under the small vice I will be bolting on so it's away from any potential weld area to avoid the funky stuff magnets do to the arc etc...

Or are they naff and not worth buying?

If you require a dedicated earth lead for a steel topped bench/vice with a Dinse plug for the welding power source connection,.

Why not just use a cable lug and bolt/nut to attach the cable to the bench???

Magnetic arc blow only really seems to be a problem above 150/200 amps DC depending on joint type/set up...

Why not just use a cable lug and bolt/nut to attach the cable to the bench???

This, you could even use one of the vice mounting bolts to secure the lug so no extra drilling involved

Or perhaps use the special technique called welding to attach the bolt?

I have 2 but very rarely use them , as above i either use a vice bolt or weld a bolt on

I will admit, I hadn't even thought of bolting a lug directly to the table

crap for tig, HF becomes hit and miss, end up just arcing the clamp all the time

I just put the normal springy clamp on to the bolt I welded to mine!

A flattened piece of copper pipe bolted to the table top works to.

That's what I used to do, but as it's a mobile cart I'd like as little leads as possible that can get snagged so want an earth clamp with a lead I can cable tie to the frame and then forget about it. Then it's only the tig torch or mma stinger that's loose

when i was on wreckers one of the fitters used to love clamping a bracket or part in a vice then striking a 7018 on the jaws before dragging the arc onto the part...bloke was an idiot...more than 1 occasion he welded the part to the vice

There used to be one on the welder at the last place I worked, but it was far enough away to not effect the weld, but it was a pain in the **** for just collecting all the grind and spatter I personally prefer just to use a clamp.

Probably would have put them Etsy these days, they would use one of the piece parts as a striking up block, they usually went in the scrap bin when they got to this stage.
