I need about 20 long bolts around 12mm thick and up to 250mm long. They are for a clinker built boat I am rebuilding. The boat is freshwater use only. Would high tensile rod be any good for this? I would like to weld nuts on the end and then grind them to a thin T shape. This is because those ends will be sunk in thick wood sections, tapered to a narrow face.........hence the full nut would be too near the edge of wood.
I would use epoxy primer on them. My other options are bronze( spendy) or stainless ( not suitable)
There are coach bolts but they have that square on them and I always think grinding it off may weaken them. Can't see carriage bolts long enough, although they would do.
