bought a Lincoln sp170-i with a cracked plastic part on the torch fitting just inside the machine ,the guy had knocked it with something a while back and was still using it the way it was , in fact he welded a frame onto the trolley to stop him doing it again , I was going to araldite it then touch the crack in with a soldering iron then self tap a small angle bracket on it as well , if I was keeping it then a euro torch would be the way to go but was only going to use it until I repaired the torch on my migtronic , what do you guys think or should I just sell it on the way it is and show who ever what needs doing
I would epoxy the crack after cleaning and also attach an angle bracket as suggested, That is the Lincoln I-170 "big boy", so called because it will take a full 15Kg reel of wire, Absolutely cracking machine, Will weld very thin steel without a problem,Ideal for car bodywork on its lowest setting, capable of continuous runs and not the usual spot on spot technique , I still have one in excellent condition
no room really for another welder but just cant help myself when I see something...lol , guess I'm just another toolaholic on here , need a tip to try it out and see if it welds ok , like my old migtronic mx 180 and it would be a shame for it to be just sitting around when someone could use it
Interested in this as I have one, can any of you guys tell me were there differant models, as mine states 40-170amp ,where as macandmoss states 30-125 on the plate? otherwise mine is marked 30-170 else where?
be interested to find out. trying to find a smooth wire feed roller for mine as currently set up with knurled.Arther
It may be possible to to machine a couple of smooth "V" grooves into the existing roller, It is located with a small Allen grub screw onto the drive shaft, so could be repositioned a little, even if it means machining a little from the faces and making up a shim washer to replace the removed amount, But if they are easily available and a reasonable price I would buy one,
Good point about cutting a new groove, that makes sence, will have to chase around and see if some one can do that for me, a new roller is available .8/.6 for £30.Arther
No Picture Jim, another member has kindly offered to measure his so maybes some one can turn one, but dont like to impose.I could take pic of knurled if that helps? Arther
That sounds good Jim, if you scroll up to start of this thread/page you can see roller on the original write up(?)asking about repairing mechanism.Arther
The repair was done new liner fitted and welder checked out at speedarc
welding supplies , easy to swap polarity as was set up for flux core as it was set up that way when checked out ,set for regular wire now and a roll of 8mm 15kg roll fitted and new tip
