when i turn the gas off at the bottle with the regulator backed right off, the bottle pressure pressure drops from nearly 2000 to zero in a couple of minutes, i can see the needle falling.
i have done a soapy spray test but cannot see any bubbles.
does this mean that i have a leak, or is this normal?
I can't remember it dropping so fast when i was using oxy/acetolyne.
History: I started welding with arc many many years ago then oxyacelyne, not done either for many years.
I did have a go with a mates mig to do a few welding jobs on my trailer, but he set it all up for me.
my latest is a used clarke 100e which (I was told had only done 1 project. the owner couldn't get used to it, so his mate did the project for him using a pub bottle. when the job was finished and the bottle went back, said owner wasn't prepared to invest in something that he had tried and wasn't happy with.)
I am using hobbyweld 5 and got a regulator off ebay, and an extension adapter. the fittings on the regulator were not compatible so I had to change them with fitting from a spare oxy regulator.
I have recently tried my arc welder on some scrap and happy with the results. tried the mig today after problems with wire feed. the roll was sticking, then got a birds nest. there was grease on the rollers which I stripped and cleaned, also the wire roll. then re threaded the machine.
After which and a little practice I was happy with the results, for a first attempt.
