I have a straight air drill made by Silverline. For some time now I've wanted to make a mount for this so it can be fitted to the toolpost. This would be used to aid cross drilling of parts directly in the lathe.
This little clamp has come my way. Actually it isn't a clamp but is almost all the way to becoming one.
The drill should fit snugly through the centre hole. If not I can bore it out fractionally, with a small milled packer pushed in the slot to prevent it closing up in the chuck.
Then I can weld a piece of aluminium square bar on to the clamp, parallel to the hole's axis. Then mill this square to the hole and the clamp. Then an M4 pinch bolt to close up the slot and grip the drill firmly. The square bar will then be clamped into a tool holder and this will allow the drill to be put on and taken off the tool post at will.
