Yes, YANBAL thread!
("Yet Another Bought A Lathe" thread)
I've bought a lathe and I'm an unashamed novice.

First the good news:
1/ It was cheap (including delivery)
2/ All main parts appear to be in working order
3/ Oil in gearbox seems clean.
4/ Came with
1/ Incredibly dirty
2/ Very battered (but the poor old dear is about 70 years old)
3/ The removable bed section is missing
4/ No thread gears apart from the ones she's wearing at the moment.
My intentions towards her are, I think, honourable:
Clean her up, fix any minor problems, learn how to use her properly and maybe, eventually, give her a lick of paint.
I will post my help and advice questions later as I come up against particular problems.
Unsolicited advice is also welcome!
