So my cousin was offered this MIG... we don't need it (I have a 400a Miller inverter MIG already) but it looks pretty boss (in fact, looks like twice the machine of the Miller on the surface!). It's quiet, and the feeder is well built. Runs a nice bead too...
And I acquired this old TIG set from a mate... it wasn't working, no-one knew anything about it. I actually turned it down several times, because I didn't have the space or time for a possible scrap pile project. It weighs around 300kg!
It needs a 63a supply to run full wack... it's temporarily bodged up with a 32a socket and it trips the C32 breaker every 2nd time with the switch-on inrush current Needs a D type breaker!
Over the weekend, dragged it out... traced it to a fault in the water cooler, once linked out it worked pretty well... started on stick mode, and by golly it's a powerful beast... incredibly smooth and forceful on DC w/ 7018, and works well in AC too... Tested the TIG modes with a wire link to see if the HF would light up a stick, seems to work well
It seems a shame because it looks and works awesome, but I really have no use for it at all, since we're already over-geared, so the plan is just to sell it, hopefully as-is, and in the meantime I'll have to rig up a TIG torch so prospective buyers can try it out properly. I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like in AC TIG, I've never used an old-school transformer TIG set before.
