I've got some plumbing work to do. The stopcock won't isolate it's passing quite badly and leaking. So, bought a new decent quality stopcock, isolate at the path, change stop cock and crack on with other jobs.
So today identified the footpath isolation outside my house. Lifted the lid spent an hour or so on my knees digging the rubbish out the hole. Full arms length, still no valve. I used various tools to reach and still no valve.
I called Northumbrian water, they came out same day, dug the pit out with some proper tools, found the valve, turned it off.
My water was still on. Lady over the road lost her supply. Turned hers back on. Waterboard man gets his metal detector out and finds that my valve pit has been tarmacked over.. so now I have to wait for them to come and dig the path up, a couple of weeks or so. I want to crack on but can't. I have thought about freezing the pipe below the valve, cut it out cos it's soldered on , it's a copper main. Then fit new valve etc. But I hate being under pressure and if it thaws or doesn't freeze properly or even splits I'm in trouble. I also only have around 5" under the kitchen units to freeze, working from the removed kick panel. I think it best to wait for the water board!
