Hi all
apologies in advance for the lengthy explanation.
I'm working flat out on my camper. We have a deadline of the 10th and I'm way behind because every job I start turns out to be worse than it looked!
So I separated the fibreglass roof and worked my way round fixing all the rust holes.
There was a big one at the front that went down behind the window seal so I took the window out to fix that and discovered there were a lot of rust holes all round the frame.
Some of it is really bad. Here's a pic of the bottom right.
Some of it just fell out along with the window.
So I've rebuilt the top left corner as well as fixing the rust hole that started this carry on. But this is another lengthy job. Takes me bloody ages to do welding jobs.
Here's another pic that shows the extent of the deviation.
So to the question. How the hell do you fix a thing like this? The home goes through to the engine bay too so I'm a bit uneasy about doing it.
Is it hazardous welding so close to the motor? I'm a bit worried about starting a fire. Or exploding. So what's the safety procedure for this? I thought I'd maybe stuff a welding blanket underneath and then hang another to stop stuff going into the van.
Apologies again for the lengthy post. Really just looking for advice on how to tackle this. If you look closely at the pics you'll see that it's much worse than it appears at first glance.
I'm feeling awfully tempted to try and get someone to come round and do it for me while I'm at work!
Any advise very much appreciated.
Cheers!
