As some of you may have seen from my other thread I have recently purchased a J&S 540 Surface Grinder.
Will be picking this up in a weeks time but am trying to figure out the best way to lift it.
From the J&S manual it has a nice picture on how to sling the grinder using 2 eye bolts on the top of the column and the ears cast into the front of the machine
Unfortunately mine is an early one so does not have the ears on the front. Picture below is not of the one I've bought but is the same design
Have confirmed that the tapped holes on top are present and have purchased a pair of 1/2"BSW lifting eyes to go in them. Question is what do I sling off on the front.
If anyone has experience of moving one of these would be interested in how they lifted it without having the lifting ears cast into the front
Couple of ideas I had were
1. 5T ratchet strap around the body and sling off that
2. Take off the front cover and use some wide flat hooks on the casting lip
3. Make a pair of ears for the front, drill the main casting and bolt them on
Would welcome your collective thoughts
Thanks in advance
Chris
