This got wrenched in a freak gust ,it was a wedding present, not sure the replacement cost,it looks a tricky assembly to try and get the two circular wires relocated, has anyone successfully repaired one?
Everything is repairable...I'd certainly be looking into replacement costs before attempting to repair that though stuff like that has a habit of becoming a nightmare quite quickly
we have two in our holiday rental....after 5 years experience the cheapies dont work more than 1 season....
we just bought 2 from Ikea at similar money when on offer as the cheapo's and twice the qual.....
A qual one here woulde be 300euro's......
we have just had a few gusty days.....driving out u see loads of broken ones by the bins.....
I just rob the poles and any st/st screws and bin the rest....
Replaced one with this one 2 weeks ago, keep my eye on weather reports - moderate winds my arris! Did for last one.
Got this one in another part of garden which is a lot more substantial and expensive.
It's a sort of snug I made with posts in each corner so I drilled and fitted hole through bolts and anchored with SS 2.5 wire, doesn't move even in a stiff wind.
fiddly but doable, the original wire is simply twisted and will break if you try and re twist it. get some new wire, lay it out without the fabric (Unscrew the bit on the top) lay in the struts in order as you pass the wire through. If you have a small ratchet strap it helps to squeeze the struts in place in the hub then re do the wire.
Looking at that, big ziptie repair moment? i.e. feed the biggest one I had through the holes folding it slightly to make it fit, then zip it up to replace the ring. That's probably how I'd do it...
Had no idea they were so cheap, ffs, more landfill, too many expensive things to sort currently to care for this,it got wrenched so violently,it bent the hole in the table, that’s 2mm thick.
Many years ago I knew a guy who had bought half a slipway for the teak and he was making beautiful garden umbrellas with it, they weren't the cheapest but he would go to Kew every year for a week and that was his order book filled for the year.
I had 3 of these and over the years they dwindled down to two, then one, then finally the last of them went the tip last year. I restrung the winch, swapped bits between them and even got my wife to sew some repair pockets for the end of the spokes in the material.
Should probably post this in the "how tight are you" thread, but just cant take things the tip when they're fixable. Probably why I have a zillion unfinished projects though!
I 'repaired' mine when the block the wire runs through broke, i used a tig rod. ran it around through the holes twice and twisted the ends until it was snug enough to work.
