Interesting video

Ok so whilst browsing YouTube I found a video that's interesting for two reasons.

It starts out in Russian, but don't let that bother you.

So firstly there's a tool I've not seen before, at about 50 seconds in, that he uses to weld a sill with.

Second reason the video is interesting is because at 5 mins 20 seconds the video goes to a full length video from the welding institute (in English). It's a bit dated, and some of the work looks a bit sub standard (to me anyway), but it covers replacing body panels on cars, and makes use of Mig welding.

The Russian bit is quite interesting. It would be nice to know what is being used.

We use a flame-polisher for acrylics which puts out a flame around 1800*C, but very small. It is very similar to units for jewellery production.

That is definitely a flame.

Doesn't look anything like the plasma welder I've worked on, it had a quite a large umbilical going to the torch with water cooling (containing power supply) and 2 gases (shielding and plasma), it had a continuous pilot arc then the main arc fired for welding.

Could it be an oxy-fuel torch of some kind, with oxygen (or compressed air) being mixed with a fuel gas, maybe hydrogen, in the red unit and going in one hose to the torch, with the red thing being similar inside to this gas mixer from Miller? Maybe it's an oxy/hydrogen generator and torch? The "filler wire" in his hand looks like it's been unrolled from something so I'm inclined to think it is actually silver solder - This also backs up the oxy/hydrogen idea because you can't weld with oxy/anythingbutacetylene but you can solder or braze. The brown 2 litre bottle next to it might be full of an electrolyte.

What he's using looks very similar to those Multiplaz things which use leccy to ionise a water/alcohol mix and create the plasma. From the sparks in the vid i'm thinking he is kinda/sorta welding and the filler began life as a wire coat hanger? There's a bunch of comical vids on the multiplaz site which partly explain why Fronius don't bother hyping their plasma cutter to be a wonder machine and why Miller/Lincoln/Kemppi/Lorch etc haven't bothered to make one either
