this turned up outside our house this morning so all work stopped to have a nosey how it worked all those hydraulics and they still had to push it round by hand

Looks like a track grinder. I had to stop work to let one pass one time in the middle of the night. Lots of noise, lots of sparks, lots of dust.

yes it lifts the track and packs the ballast under the sleepers and gauges it as well was only supposed to be there for an hour doing 1 length of track . they cocked the type of sleepers sent so waiting for the right ones to arrive poor wagon drivers still sat there wating to take it down to crewe. ive given him a few cups of tea and by the looks he will be getting his dinner by the time there finished

nahh he works for a haulage company. the rail lads will be hiding down the track sat in there vans making the job last

did she balance perfect when the foot went down or was there guide wheel/s to keep her right?
its a smart idea all be that you would want to put the foot down in the right place first, or dose she have a bit of movement there.

back in the day when I was on the railways they were made by Plasser & Theurer and the CCE department kept me in good money as they sliced signaling and telecom cables every time they went out :-)

I left the railways and joined a manufacturer of two way radios and blow me my first job was fitting comms to one of the tampers .. so they still kept me going even after I'd left.

its well balanced in the middle and u can move the hydraulic arms in and out to move it to correct position over the track

they left a 10 foot length on the line near house for a month but it was 2 heavy to drag in otherwise it would have been anvilles all round

yea but its difficult to get on the track and haul it off with a strap theres also cameras on the crossing. it wont take a rocket scientist to work out who knobbled it . even the old bill can work that one out
