Feeling lazy and don't want to go digging holes and messing about with postcrete
I have some galv heavy wall tube which will be a perfect fit.
Can I just hammer say 2ft of it into the ground? Then use a big auger bit to clear the earth and use a spacer down the tube to stop the post dropping down too far?

That's how I dig small holes, but I knock the soil out as I go. In my opinion though in this instance I think the weight above ground will pull and gradually start open up the hole. A big plate welded to the top of the tube should stop it or just dig it out and chuck some concrete in.

That is what I did more or less and it ended up well off upright after 4 years or so as above.
TBH, its less hassle just doing a 14" hole 20" deep, stick your pipe in that and postcrete in 5" off the top, back fill with soil and put the turf you sliced out back around.
I did that 3 years ago and in aint moved a bit

Whack it in as deep as you can, then cut it flush to the grass? Worst case of it starts to flex, take it out and rethink a more robust plan

I got a spike from Argos. Whacked it in the grass. Been good for a few years now, came with a load of plastic reducing sleeves to fit any size rotary. About a tenner if I recall correctly.

If it starts to shift you can tamp aggregate down the sides of it like you do with stock fence strainer posts

At my previous address I had to put one up quickly so I belted a piece of plastic waste pipe into the lawn & it lasted years, may still be in there.

Exactly that, by the time you have messed around hammering in and bending the edges over, let alone messing about getting the mud out the pipe.
Obvious but the other options do depend on the size/quality of the spinney thing and how much your soil gives.
Mrs bought a £80 quality one 20 years + ago weighs a lot and you can get a lot on it, ratchet mech etc still looks like new £80 was mentle I thought at the time.

There was no bent edges or mud to dig out of mine, even came with a plastic plug/dolly to whack it in with.
I made a pilot hole, with a long bar, knock it in a bit, check it's straight with a bubble, knock it in a bit more, open the hole out by stiring the bar top in bigger circles, knock in a bit more, check with bubble then put the spike, place dolly on top, whack that in. Job done, properly, as far as I'm concerned. In straight, no damage to lawn, still straight years later. Why over complicate an easy job. Maybe if you have really soft soil, then use concrete, I didn't and mines straight and solid, still.

We have gnome sitting on the mount. When it snowed, I looked out and saw a robin, standing very still, I went to feed it some birdseed. It was the gnome's red hat.

Ours was just knocked into the ground. We got a new one last year we wanted other side of the path. We couldnt shift the old one so cut it off flush with the ground. New one is perfectly solid.

Consider sticking one of the cheap solar powered garden lights on the hole as a marker.
