Before I ask my question, some background.
I bought a MigMate 105 off the bay with "poor wire feed" for £19.
Did the mods shown on this site - the pulley brace, a 24Volt 6Amp power brick, a 240Volt relay to feed and kill the volts to the motor, and a steel new liner. Adjusted the trim pot with the speed at minimum, and it now works a treat.
So thanks to everyone who contributed to the mods, particularly BillJ.
I'm a complete novice, never welded before, and I'm trying to install a 0.7Kg drum of wire on my MigMate 105.
I was keen to try the mods out, so I mounted the drum without the tensioning spring, which is missing :-<
Removed the cellophane wrapping from the drum.
Snipped off the free end of the wire that was poked through a hole in the plastic flange of the drum.
Immediately about 20 feet of wire sprung off the drum and fell to the floor like a coil spring.
Is this normal behaviour, if so I'll watch out for it next time!
How should I have done it?
Thanks for looking
Michael
