So is the seat of the holder flat?
I have a pot of inserts a friend gave me but no matching holders but I never thought of making my own holders for them.
This one is, not sure what the ideal angle should be, most external holders look flat? I know internal boring bars are 15 degree and I use it for external turning as well.
I wanted to cut a couple more angles. Would have been quicker to file them, but now I know how to do it. First set vice at 6 degrees and make some wedges, then set at 10 degrees and wedge work.
Very pretty.
Mine always look a bit cobbled together;-) I have even made them by removing the metal with a
die grinder before now!
Here's a few that were on my table. The groover[?], with the old parting inserts, was roughed out
with an angle grinder and filed to final shape!
First attempt using the slitting saw was scary. Sliced the corner off some 1/4" aluminuim bar. Second attempt with 1/2" bar, got half way before it jammed and shattered with no warning Ill use the remains as a parting blade
I imagine these would be better if the teeth were set or some clearance ground in? but Ive only seen it on the much thicker, carbide tooth saws.
