Hi, I’m hoping someone can nudge me in the right direction.
I’m a total novice to TIG, all my experience is in MIG/ MAG.
I’ve bought a torch for my DC inverter so I can have a try at scratch start TIG. I know scratch start is far from ideal but if I like it (and eventually turn out to be any good at it) I will buy a proper TIG welder.
What I’m after please, is a little info on what consumables and such to use.
Once I get my argon sorted out, I will be cutting some strips of mild steel flat bar either 2mm or 3mm thick.
I’m sure it’s not a one size fits all but I don’t want to start off using the wrong stuff and then lose heart when I’m rubbish. I know I’ll be rubbish at first but as long as I see progression, I’ll keep going.
Anyway, what I’m after really is the tungsten colour, tungsten diameter and cup size that would best suit running test beads on this stuff please. The current I can fiddle with as I go.
The torch came with a 1.6mm and 2.4mm grey tungstens. Also a 5 and 6 cup. If I need to get other sizes or colours that’s fine.
Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it.
Paul
