Hi all, i've been lurking on here for a long while and getting very usefull information from reading the threads.
But i have a question for you that i can't find on here already. I have an old Ingersoll Rand type 30 compressor with a large 3hp motor.
There is a box on the side of the motor that houses 2 capicitors and also a set of terminals for the wiring connections. There are 2 bridges in there to connect certain terminals to each other. On the lid there is an option for low voltage and high voltage settings depending where the bridges are installed. It is currently set to low voltage
The motor plate states it is single phase but also states 240v and 480v.
So my question is what is the high voltage option and is that going to be better than the low voltage option that it is currently set to. The compresor does struggle to start on cold mornings (which we have plenty of in yorkshire) and yes i have changed the oil and filter.
My unit has a new 3 phase supply so whatever the result i should be able to run it. Obviously i will not be trying to wire it myself i will get an electrician in, however not the one who installed the new supply as when i asked him about it he had no idea
