Finally finished modding my AC mig following thru topics and posts from this forum. I'd say it pays to read..am very proud and happy i did it!
The most important part of the mod was the inductor because it's the one thing that would spell the difference to weld quality. and the ever famous sizzle sound and arc stability that seem to make my 90 amp function like a 200amp industrial mig ...except that it saturate's and poof - it's coffee break
Here's some attached pics. Inductor is 60 turns #10 with center tap on a 4x2 E core. DC is 3 x 35A Parallel Bridge Rectifier mounted on an aluminum heat-sink fin. Capacitor is 2 x 10000 uf/65v computer grade, choke is on negative rail, OCV is @ from 35v to 45v.
I just wonder if there's someone who can improve or make a better design of the inductor..to minimize saturation at least.
