I've been looking for some videos where people demonstrate too low, just right, and too high wire feed speed settings. Specifically I'm trying to find one that is "too low" to confirm what I hear when I think my wfs is too low. I don't know if the mic these YouTube guys use just hears something different, but I finish every "too low" video and think "nope, that didn't sound like what I'm looking for either"
What am I looking for? I dialled in a low setting on a recent test run on my hobby mig and the sound was like a hissing noise, with few or no crackle sounds. I'm pretty sure this is too low of a wfs, because in the past when I've had it sound like this I've ended up welding the end of the wire to the tip
So why is it whenever I go looking for videos that demonstrate the difference between settings by sound, they all sound pretty much the same? Anyone know of any good videos that demo the difference? (I'd like to know if you can hear it, and hence can you do a better job of explaining what you're hearing, than the video presenter does explaining what they hear)
As an example (not of wfs, just a "here be different welding sounds") http://www.weldingengineer.com/1mig.htm has audio files for spray, glob and dip and pretty much they sound the same to me. Also no idea why the audio changes and sounds like someone shoved a sock over he mic half way through each clip.
Another example (this time for wfs):
(so you don't have to watch the whole thing: too low at 2:05, just right 3:05, too high 4:05) - to me these sound pretty much the same, the crackles are a little closer together in the high one giving the impression of a higher pitch, and there might be a louder hissing sound hidden underneath the crackles, but I didn't find as much difference in these sounds as I was expecting- everyone says "it should sound like bacon frying"; yep, I think those clips all sound a little like bacon frying. Am I listening for the wrong thing? Can you recommend a video where it's really durn obvious what the difference is?
