Hi all,
I'm looking for AC/DC tig welder for a local charity and Oxford Tigmaker 220E looks ideal but they dont come up second hand often and are beyond our budget new so im really looking for a similar machine but a bit older preferably or, dare i say it, unbranded from China. Any recommendations for something like this machine but that may be available second or for lower price tag than the Oxford? Cant find anything from likes of Murex... only the big honkin transformer units or expensive esab inverters.
Apparently the tigmaker's got transformer and chopper circuitry which looks perfect compromise between reliability and portability. To be honest i thought inverters were chopper circuits anyway so if someone can clarify the difference between the these hybrid units and full inverter machines that would also be useful. Anyway it seems that they are more robust and probably more economical to repair than pure digital inverters but they weigh in around 50kg for 200+ amps which is reasonable compared to 20-30kg for full inverter machines or upward of 100kg for a transformer unit of similar power.
Im guessing they are cheaper to manufacture too so really surprised to not have come across comparable machines from other manufacturers or China!
