Embarrassingly basic question here...
But could anyone tell me how the eyelet would have been made on this 1960s-era rod?:
I need to make one in a different shape/longer length and can't decide how to form the eye. The obvious thing would be to heat and flatten the end of a piece of steel rod, shape it into a circle and drill a hole. But then the eyelet would be very thin.
Alternatively I could weld a hoop onto the end of a piece of shaped bar and tap the end - but that would be difficult with mig.
Or mill, turn, bend and then thread the whole thing out of a bit of square bar.
Many thanks.
