Apologies for my first post not being welding related, found my way here when I discovered a post about the factory blue paint for Record vices.
I'm struggling to remove the lead screw from a Record No. 36 vice.
The quick release assembly is out and the bump spring/washer (dunno the right name) is free having removed the pin that holds the spring/washer to the end of the lead screw threads.
From what I've seen on YouTube and from the written account at post #6 over here the lead screw should now simply slide out but something is holding it in place. There is about 2mm movement front to back before it hits something solid and I can't see what it is. Don't think it's the half threaded collar, when the vice is upside down I'm lifting it by hand to slide the jaws.
Is the 1.5x2" ish plate on the rear shown on the image below standard? Clutching at straws I'm wondering if the previous owner welded it in place?
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any help much appreciated.
