Hi all,
Im new to spraying and thought I'd start with Cellulose as I heard it was safer than 2k etc.
Using a Draper 50L 2HP compressor, In line water trap and SIP professional spray gun, 1.8 nozzle. Also got a Drager? half mask with painters filters to keep the fumes out..
Basically I've got a Mk2 Golf GTI racecar which im attempting to respray the interior of and a bonnet.
A couple of things,
I seem to be using too much paint, Im doing the bonnet first and Ive used about 750ml of Jet black gloss, does this sound excessive?
The first coat was utterly terrible, It looked more like satin or matt finish and was very sandpaper like. so I rubbed it down with 1500 Wet and had another go, laying about 4 coats down. As soon as I put more thinners in, 60% rather than 40-50% the paint flowed so much better and actually had a gloss it it, I was quite pleased.
Until the paint got contaminated by flies and dust that is. but it is a racecar and im out of black paint so no more coats.
I kind of run out of black and the bonnet didnt quite look glossy all over so sprayed pure thinners on it. Is that a big no no? whats the max % thinners I should use? It doesnt look too bad, bit of orange peel but not unusable, until it dried and its 50% blooming on the panel.
Now the real question is how to I get it back to gloss?
how long should I wait till I can polish it?
I dont know much about compounding etc, In my selection I have Autoglym Super resin polish, Autoglym Paint renovator and Meguirs Gold glass wax.
should i jusy try the SRP first as its not? or not so abrasive as the paint renovator or should I try this Farecla? g3 or g10 stuff.
Also any idea why the gun sometimes drips paint from the nozzle? this really annoys me as I do as panel then drip drip
I've primered the panel and the inside of the car with a grey industrial primer with quite high solids content so its like a high build primer but doesnt appear to flake chip badly. 2 coats seems to have done an ok diy job.
Im awaiting L90E VW Alpine white for the interior but im now worried 1.5L isnt enough, hoping more thinners on the first coat will help me lay it dowm properly.
anyone used High gloss cellulose thinners and what did you think to it? Im using a anti blooming thinners but clearly its not up to much.
any though/ tips appreciated,
seb
