I've been vaguely on and off thinking of what helpfuldave said about his set up and today remembered I have a generator I rarely use.
Now, full disclosure, I studied mechanical engineering and only did a couple of sparky modules so this may be utter guff...
My thoughts are this - if I can tap the genny to produce 3 phase rather than single, surely all I would need to do would be to swap out the motor for an appropriately sized 1 phase motor and I would have what I need to power a 3 phase bit of kit.
I'm not really bothered about efficiency as it'll not be used much in the short term and I like the idea of being able to plug a mill in without pfaffing about chopping up wires for a VFD.
What do you think then? Workable or just plain stoopid?
Cheers,
Fro
