Hobby Gas - A question about the regulator

Only a complete novice would ask this question so it is perfectly suitable for me

I have just purchased a Parweld single stage regulator and a Hobbyweld 9 litre cylinder (15% Co2) and was wondering about the regulator. I understand the standard hose connection but was wondering about the small threaded connection on the opposite side of the regulator, it looks like something you could use to connect the push in nylon piping that goes directly to the welding set but I suspect it may not be for that at all.

I did purchase the hose converter to go from the Parweld 3/8 bsp hose outlet to the welding set nylon tube so I can get welding right enough, I was just curious about the other connection.

    Cheers
    Mike

Have a look on the back of the reg.
Each port will be marked HP or LP
HP is high pressure for inlet or bottle content gauge
LP is low pressure, gas out to welder or delivery rate gauge.

Yours sounds a bit odd as you would normally only have one outlet and any spare LP ports would have a blanking plug.
I have seen them set up with a threaded outlet for the welder and a push fit for a purge line but unless you specifically ordered it like that (or bought it used) it would be pretty unusual.

If the other outlet has a hex on it and a hole that looks too small for a gas pipe it is probably a safety valve. Have a look at it closely and it might well have some sort of pressure rating stamped on it

It sounds very much like the safety valve to me :)

Yes that was my thought too, just wasn't sure, hotponyshoes described it perfectly actually ;) it's a standard Parweld, twin-gauge, single stage gas regulator for Argon if that helps.

Anyway cheers guys, it's put my mind at rest.
