Can someone direct me on the legalities of having a load sticking out of the back of the van by upto 30cm and tying the doors together. This wouldn't be for a short local journey, more like 200miles on all classification of roads

I have something too long for my Citroen Dispatch which with bulkhead takes around 210cm.

I have asked @fizzy to see what a double pallet load will cost ..

If it's securely fastened, doesn't obstruct visibility of lights, numberplate etc, and doesn't protrude more than 1m out, then it's absolutely fine, crack on.

Legal yes but I would still put a flag or reflector on it.

Anything is legal as long as you have a dirty hi Vis tied to it
If it's inside out so the reflective strips arnt showing then even better

Cut a hole through the bulkhead under passenger seat and slide it through.
Traffic's have a hatch there for this reason.

Bear in mind that exhaust gasses may be drawn into the vehicle if the back doors aren't closed

I was going to say the same. Once moved a piece of furniture down the dual carriageway in an old fiesta with the boot tied down. Had a pounding headache and felt sick after half an hour!

I think you're looking at getting pulled,as your rear lights might not be visible from all angles(have heard rumours this'll give plod the excuse)
You could think about fixing a lighting board at the back, you got a tow bar socket?
