I had been invited to visit the factory by one of the directors,-he had seen my posts on here-hence the invitation.
It turned out to be one of the best days out I have had for a long time-what is not to like-touring a factory turning out welding kit and talking welding all day.
The factory is amazingly quiet and clean considering all the processes that take place, and there was an impression of quiet efficiency and solid teamwork.
All GYS products are made there with the exception of the Smartmigs, which are assembled in China under GYS control. As I own and use a Smartmig 162, I would say that the Smartmigs do not lose out on build quality because of this. That is an important point-because a Smartmig is the most likely GYS product to be purchased by most potential equipment purchasers on here.
I visited the warranty and service department-they were not busy.
The factory has expanded continously over the last four years, the philosophy being to improve efficiency and operating condititions.
All operations from design to production are on site, PCBs are not bought in, they are manufactured on site by some impressive machinery.
I learned a lot by the end of the day, it was an honest visit and atmosphere and underpinned my satisfaction in buying GYS.
So much so that, being offered a deal, I bought an AC/DC TIG machine there and then.
I had a quick trial run, and hope to go back to try more of their kit with their welding instructor.
My first priority though is to get my write up done on the Smartmig 162.
I'll be attempting to get to grips with all the technology and features on the TIG asap and will report back on that when I think I am comfortable with it.
This should be an interesting project for some on here as I have been Tigging with basic Lift TIG, so possibly it will show how the investment in a full spec TIG pans out.
My thanks to all at GYS and of course to this forum-it was being on here that opened up this opportunity and new skill horizons.
