Greetings from Slough!

Hi

I'm currently living in Slough (well been here 11 years now) but used to live in South Africa. I'm learning to weld and annoying my neighbours and wife with the angle grinder - not really, I keep it down to sociable hours only

I'm probably going to be asking loads of questions, I'm having probs with my welds being flat with poor penetration at the moment but should be able to find an answer on here hopefully.

I've got a SIP 150 with disposable bottles and a pub bottle which I'll use until it's empty and will then probably move on to a hire contract which seems like the sensible option. I'm going to be working on renovating (not restoring) a 1972 camper van which is mainly rust at the mo, so should be a good challenge.

I was down in Slough a couple of weeks ago but just overnight - stayed in the Travelodge (wouldn't recommend that Travelodge)

Poor penetration sounds like the amps are too low. Flat welds are what everyone else on here are aiming for, but if they are a problem then increasing the wire speed should sort them out. I normally set the amps for penetration, then find the happy point between too high (bouncing off) and too low (burning back) wire speed.
