Hi guys . Firstly, without this forum i would be even more clueless than I am now. It is really valuable and you are all very altruistic to keep advising us noobs!
Right I have got quite a few issues probably all related. I've been trying to get decent welds for absolutely ages. What I have worked out is that clean metal is really important.
I am using clarke 90. I have a co2 argon mix disposable. On the standard clarke regulators does it matter where you have the dial opened to? I opened it full ie one full 360 degree turn.
I took out the wire from the welder as it ran out and discovered that it was SIP gas less wire. I swapped this for a clarke mild steel wire. This is a copper colour.
Now the reel isn't turning very well. Is it because it is heavier now? Even with screw unscrewed full it still seems to speed up and slow down as if under strain.
Both 0.8 wires
Welds shown were done on lowest setting with about wire speed 6
Previous wire actually gave the bacon sizzle crackle, felt good.
New reel sounds worse and popping and banging, intermittent weld.
What is all the white deposit is this a lack of gas ?
First pics with the old wire, later pics with holes in bead with new wire
Any advice very welcome !
