can anybody help me would it be possible to gasless mig weld.useing a honda 700watt gennie as power thankyou
Does not work like that you would need a genny at least three times that size. A generator will not pull full load instantly the way mains will when you pull torch switch. The welder will be running way under current with normal wire feed speed i.e. too much wire. Until governor pulls genny up to required throttle. Then it will weld.if you want 16A supply ( say a 165 A MIG) at 230V AC you would need at least a 4 kVA generator. 13A = 3 kVA
700 W = 3.3Amps @.9pf
Open circuit voltage.not sure what ovc i
Do you not get a spike of ocv on start up?I cant see what ocv has to do with sizing a generator.ocv does nothing to power consumption.
working voltage is what matters.
Edit again if your ever measuring ocv on a tig set Make sure it’s done with the hf turned OFF. I can tell you from experience multimeters do not appreciate hf.
I've run 160a mig quite successfully off my 5kva 2 stroke job, would do bodywork just fine.would a 5.5kva genny work ok for a 150amp max welder? it wont ever be used at 150 amps as its mainly for sheet work up to 2mm.
asking for my brother as hes got to do some work remotely with no power source.
