Gas bottle help..

So I was left an oxy kit by my grandad a few years ago now, I no he got the bottles free and he went to a local supplier that filled them back up for him each time, then went out of business and now I have no where to get them filled as most places now charge rent for bottles and these bottles are as old as the hills at least 15years old.

So basically what do I now do?

How do I no if the bottles are in date for pressure tests?

I'm considering using the larger bottle as a Co2 shield for my mig as I only do odd jobs and could get this filled for £15 locally

there boc portapack bottles. u wont be able to get them filled or exchanged without taking a contract out with them . your better off getting a none rental set of a supplier pay the deposit and then u just pay for the refills . allso u wont get the oxygen bottle filled with any other gas by anyone plus the regulator would be the wrong type

Bottles are designed/marked for specific gasses, you shouldn't fill a bottle with the wrong gas.

They belong to BOC so get in touch with them, but be prepared to be asked to surrender them.

Ahh fantastic.. Not was I wonted to hear but if that's the case that's the case I guess. Am I best of ringing a local branch

Dont say anything......
Go to BOC and rent yourself the exact same bottles.
You'll pay for the gas and a years rental.......
Take your new bottles home.
Next week take your old empty bottles back and get them to take them off rental.
You'll get a credit for the remaining rental(you can get a refund)
so you end up with full bottles and no rental.

Apart from the fact it is blatantly obvious the cylinders are donkeys years old just by looking at them

Have a word with TC Welding Supplies at Wadsley Bridge. They stock BOC gasses and are friendly towards Joe Public.
