Garage door is ******...

Okay so anyone want a laugh?

I recently lost the keys to my garage (I say recently, I cannot remember when I lost them because I have not been in there in a little while, anyway, wanting to avoid an expensive locksmith bill I drilled the lock out, so far so good, I then disconnected the latching cable inside the garage door in order to replace the lock... In the meantime I had to go and sign for a package from the delivery man when the wonderfully beautiful and intelligent female who I decided to marry, CLOSED the garage door!

I now have a garage door that is locked from the inside, with the latch cord disconnected! There isn't a window or a side door so I cannot get in through a side entry. Does anyone know any tricks that will allow me to open my garage door without doing some serious damage to it?

Its aluminium

Hang on the door is Aluminium the garage itself is blocked, skimmed and dashed. I'll be replacing the door before I take an outer wall apart with all the work that went into it

If it's a single spring latch directly above the lock then just get in there with a thin blade like a wall paper scraper and waggle, you will surprised how easy it is to open.

Does the garage have a tiled roof ? If so you could remove some tiles and cut small hole in felt to gain access so you could then operate catch with long stick etc

Its a double latched one at the top of both sides of the door. I will have to get a mate over and give that a go!

I know that's why there is nothing valuable in the garage. Its getting to the time of year when her indoor's wants to use the tumble drier though and now due to her own silliness she cant! Plus I want to do some projects with the timber that is in there out of the rain. Not amused in the slightest!

Take a reciprocating metal saw blade to the area where the lock is.....you haven't said whether its a single or double door access?

Is it an 'up and over door'? If so then when my garage was broken into and a bike nicked the police said that they were a really insecure design and really need extra bolts/locks in all the corners. Thieves either lever out a bottom corner and a small/thin person can slip in or just give the door a good push near the edge and the channels that the roller run in bend, the roller pops out, and the door swings freely. Surprisingly neither approach seems to leave any permanent damage and so owners are often left scratching their heads as to how a locked garage has been burgled!

It is an up and over door, I have tried to push the sides of the door but it is surprisingly secure,alongside both edges of the door is galvanised channel or agnle that seems to have been placed there to prevent that happening. Looking more and more likely that I will be cutting a hole in the door and rewelding it back together. Something that will have to be an absolute last resort.

Chisel pushed in to open a wee gap. Slitting disc through bolt. Repeat for all protrusions.

Replacement will be easy to fabricate whether round or rectangular.

My lock-up door is the same. It's not a "slam" catch but rather sliding bolts.
