Last week I finished making a bunch of small fire escapes, railings and small staircases, and sent them off for galvanising on Friday. It was about 1000kg when it was sent off.
It all came back today an I have to say I was disappointed with the finish. They must have had wires around what is the handrail and the excess zinc left on it a mess, not to mention razor sharp. There is also a few bits that look as if it's tin-foil that has peeled and it's just bare steel left in it's place.
I should have taken some photos. Is it worth making a fuss about or is it just one of these things?? Can I buff the sharp bits as long as I don't go right through the coating?
I've got a trailer to build which is to get galvanised also. Is there anything I can do better to prepare it. If it comes back in a similar state as the railings it will bring me to tears. The compny that did the job was in the Newcastle area.
