Hi guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this, so just going to throw it in here. I was going to add it to my Clio build thread, but I think it's an interesting thread in it's own right..
Today I tried my hand at sanding my scrap car door. Combination of 80 Grit on DA + hand sanding 80. I also used scotchbrite course + 80 grit on the contours. I guess 80 grit is better than the scotchbrite, but scotch is fine if you can't get in with paper to key up the surface.
The right hand side of the panel was fine, with a few low spots.. and the left is where it was dinged, which is why it's not sanded as hard.
I You can see a few high spots where I went to metal, low spots that are still same colour as original paint. And I also went a bit mental on the contour line that runs by the handle.
I'm not going to bother trying to work the body at the bottom left as I'm not hoping to learn panel beating right now.
The hope is that I can bring the rest of the door up alright.. i'll fill the low spots, and also ding down the high spots with a socket so I can fill them in too..
I'm not sure where the sanding is at now. Is that ok, or does it need more? i.e. is all the clear off, or is it keyed enough for primer.
Also, do you guys usually prime then fill and prime the filler spots. Or fill first then prime all over. The internet seems divided on that.
This is more fun than I thought, probably due to the total lack of anxiety of messing up my project car.
